FFP™; unique design, proven technology
The Free Floating Piston (FFP™) has long proven itself. Thomassen invented and marketed this special piston in 1998 and has built quite a reference list ever since.
As far as we’re concerned, there’s no Passion for Compression without a deep-rooted Passion for Technique. All the more reason to attend this year’s Maintenance NEXT. The leading exhibition for maintenance professionals from 12 to 14 April, 2011 in Rotterdam, the Netherlands.
For 2011, we reserved no less than two stands at Maintenance NEXT. One focussed on Thomassen’s maintenance expertise, our highly innovative Rsens™ rider ring monitoring system, and the Thomassen Turbo Tuning activities.
The second, in one of the MegaTech Plaza’s, housed a 104-year-old Thomassen K1 type engine – a Grand Old Lady manufactured way back in 1907. The unit is rated at 110 hp and was used to power a generator. Having been owned and operated by several companies, the engine eventually ended up at Delft Technical University, where it was on display for over 30 years before being acquired by collector Mr. Johan Rolloos in 2007. Mr. Rolloos completely overhauled the 27,000kg engine, restoring it to its former glory. The engine, which was started several times during the exhibition, proved an enormous attraction.
The special K1 competition we organized, met with an overwhelming response. Participants were asked the following question: "What is the displacement volume - in liters - of the K1 engine?". The answers received ranged from 75 to 190 liters, the correct answer being 143 liter.
Many participants were able to calculate the answer quite accurately even without detailed information or a calculator. Respondents with the best solutions will receive a Gerber Multitool:
