Successful overhaul at BP Rotterdam

During the scheduled shutdown at the BP refinery in Rotterdam at the end of 2011, Howden Thomassen Compressors (HTC) overhauled two C-25.2 reciprocating compressors. These Thomassen compressors, installed by HTC in 1999 and serviced regularly ever since, were due for a major overhaul.

Unusual vibrations
BP had recently reported unusual vibrations originating from one of the crosshead guides. An inspection by HTC revealed that these vibrations were caused by a defect in the concrete foundation and the anchor bolts of the crosshead guide concerned. The repairs additional to the normal scope of this major overhaul involved replacing the anchor bolts from the crosshead guide and grouting. Including the disassembly and re-installation of the cylinder, crosshead guide and pulsation vessels.

Parts repair at the HTC Service Repair Shop
In addition, various components of the auxiliary systems, such as oil pumps, oil coolers and lubricators, were sent to the Service Repair Shop at HTC to be repaired.
