FFP™; unique design, proven technology
The Free Floating Piston (FFP™) has long proven itself. Thomassen invented and marketed this special piston in 1998 and has built quite a reference list ever since.
Following an extensive lead period, Howden Thomassen Compressors received an order from a Russian customer for two model C-45.6 compressors.
Preferred supplier
Both units will be driven by a synchronous motor with a power rating of 7,750KW. Following intensive technical evaluations, the project contractor Lengiproneftechim, recommended Howden Thomassen Compressors as preferred supplier.

Hydro-desulfurization and fractionating processes
The units, which will be used to compress excess hydrogen bearing gas, are to be installed at a refinery on the Black Sea. Both units will compress hydrogen-rich gas for use in the refinery's (very mild) hydro-desulfurization and fractionating processes.
Free Floating Piston
The order includes Howden Thomassen's revolutionary Free Floating Piston, a tailor made lubrication system, a condition monitoring system, a softstarter, spare parts, pulsation vessels and a capacity control system. Cooling liquid will be drawn from the refinery's existing system. The units will compress hydrogen (86%) gas from 6.5 to 32.65 bar in two stages.
