Co-presentation Succesfull

Metaphors make Technical Talk light

The Global Refining Summit is a yearly conference for anyone involved in refining and processing of Hydorcarbons. It is attended and highly appreciated by the world's leading refiners. Having the fifth edition in our home country was all the more reason for Thomassen to be present.

Co-Presentation Works Out
The Thomassen lecture “the essence of H2 compression in less than 60 minutes” captured the attention of the audience. “Contrary to our usual practice we decided this time to have a co-presentation. We were happy to notice we really reached our listeners”. Gerard Peppelman had his technological talk on the Rsens™ and FFP™ light-heartedly translated into everyday language by his colleague. “Maarten Wijnheijmer really knows how to involve listeners by use of simple metaphors”. Gerard and Maarten concluded their lecture with a case study on a multi-duty compressor installation at Hyundai Oilbank in Korea. The audience highly appreciated the co-presentation.

Opportunities and Challenges
Recurring topics in lectures during the event were the opportunities and challenges refineries face. Such as the decline in available and affordable fossil fuels, which requires oil companies to look for alternatives.

Major Players Present
As expected, all major global refiners attended. Not everyone played a home match though, like Shell, BP, Esso and ourselves. Other major players in the industry had to come from far. Like Arabic refiners as Takreer, Saudi Aramco en Kuwait Petroleum.

Reliance Gains High Praise
The Indian delegation included L&T (plant constructor and catalyst manufacturer) and Reliance, the largest oil refiner in the world. Mr. B.R. Metha, Senior Vice-President at Reliance, gained high praise for his lecture on the JERP project. Gerard Peppelman is impressed; “Thomassen is very proud to be so actively involved in this project. With an installed base of 24 compressors, including the world's largest, we once again realize how special it is to be so closely involved in this immense plant”.

Another lecture which peaked all interest was presented by Neste OY, which recently opened a bio-diesel plant in the Meuse estuary region.

Rotterdam Refining Hub
This year's Global Refining Summit was held in Rotterdam between 18 and 20 May. An appropriate choice, considering the city houses the highest concentration of refineries in Europe. Rotterdam is generally perceived as the continent's 'Refining Hub'.

Gerard and Maarten look forward to meeting you at the 6th Refining Summit in May 2012.

FFP™; unique design, proven technology

The Free Floating Piston (FFP™) has long proven itself. Thomassen invented and marketed this special piston in 1998 and has built quite a reference list ever since.
